Heart ultra-invasive surgery new breakthrough knife only 1 cm

Release date: 2014-11-07

The 2-year-old Xiaoru is sitting in a hospital bed and is playing with her parents. If it weren't for the nurse's suggestion, maybe she couldn't see that she had just had a heart surgery 4 days ago.

The general heart surgery scar is more than 10 cm, and the length is up to 20 cm. Even with minimally invasive surgery, the scar is between 4 and 5 cm. Xiaoru’s scalpel is only 1 cm.

Xiaoru accepted the latest cardiac ultra-invasive surgery performed by the Children's Hospital of Zhejiang University School of Medicine. As the first hospital in China to carry out ultra-invasive surgery for the heart, up to now, the Zhejiang Medical College has carried out corresponding surgery for a total of 7 children, all of which have been successful.

Xiaoru suffers from a congenital heart ventricular septal defect. If routine cardiac surgery is used, it is necessary to open the chest and perform extracorporeal circulation. Not only is the surgical incision large, the knives are obvious, but the surgical risk is relatively high.

Ultra-invasive surgery only cuts a small incision about 1 cm between the ribs, and then replaces the tissue distractor with a pericardial suspension to minimize the trauma of the rib and intercostal tissue. Subsequent ultrasound induction through the esophagus completes the repair of the defected ventricle.

"Compared with traditional surgery, ultra-invasive surgery has almost no damage to the ribs, and does not require extracorporeal circulation, which can minimize the risk of surgery and psychological stress on children and their families." Zhang Zewei, director of the Department of Cardiothoracic Surgery, said .

Li Jianhua, deputy director of the Department of Cardiothoracic Surgery, said that ultra-invasive cardiac surgery not only improved the postoperative aesthetics, but also reduced the amount of bleeding to a minimum. At the same time, the hospitalization time of patients was greatly reduced, and the total cost was reduced by 15%.

Zhejiang Medical College is a relatively mature hospital for minimally invasive cardiac surgery in China. Especially in the past five years, the hospital used minimally invasive surgery to treat ventricular septal defect, and the surgical wound was reduced to about 4 cm, greatly reducing the trauma to the patient's body.

On this basis, the cardiothoracic surgery team of Zhejiang Medical College has carried out several improvements on the original minimally invasive surgery, and successfully applied this technology in October this year to cure many children with congenital heart disease, including age. The smallest is only 1 year and 2 months.

Auxiliary Facilities

The greenhouse a filled with equipment like hydroponic, irrigation, auxiliary lighting ,temperature and humidity control and also may be automatically controlled by a computer to maximize potential growth.
Hydroponics can be used to make the most use of the interior space. The relatively closed environment of a greenhouse has its own unique management requirements, compared with outdoor production. Pests and diseases, and extremes of heat and humidity, have to be controlled, and irrigation is necessary to provide water. Most greenhouses use sprinklers or drip lines. Significant inputs of heat and light may be required, particularly with winter production of warm-weather vegetables.
