March 8, 2017 — ON Semiconductor, which promotes energy-efficient innovation, has introduced a new CCD image sensor that enables video imaging with reduced X-ray doses and enhances patient safety for digital X-ray photography.

The KAF-09001 image sensor provides the same key imaging performance as the current KAF-09000 for digital X-ray camera capture, but with an improved output architecture that supports high-sensitivity video modes for patient positioning. At the same time minimize the total X-ray exposure.

The KAF-09001 has a resolution of 9 megapixels and has the same high sensitivity and low noise 12 micron (μm) pixels as the existing KAF-09000. The new device features a four-output design that supports readout speeds of up to 20 MHz, a 10x increase in frame rate at full resolution, and a video preview of 10 frames per second (fps) when the device is in 3 x 3 binning mode. .

Herb Erhardt, vice president and general manager of the Industrial Solutions Division of ON Semiconductor's Image Sensors Division, said: "KAF-09001 enables the digital X-ray camera system to provide more functionality without sacrificing sensitivity or cost. ON Semiconductor now offers a standard and engineering grade version of KAF-09001, incorporating a CuW heat sink in a CERDIP-60 package that is compliant with the Restriction of Hazardous Substances Directive (RoHS). The device features black and white spectral sensitivity in both sealed and glass configurations.
