Spring silkworm "eggs" were originally genetically modified

Now is the season of spring silkworm scab, a new type of genetically modified silk cocoon was successfully cultivated in Yongkang. Yesterday, the reporter saw in the production workshop of Yongkang Slater Sericulture Co., Ltd. that five 100,000 pieces of genetically modified silkworms named “Jinqiu Jinchu” were cultivated by the company and the golden cocoon was beautifully colored.
According to the person in charge of the company, traditional silkworm cocoons are generally white. In recent years, a small amount of colored cocoons have appeared because silkworms eat color feed. Since last year, the company and Zhejiang University have teamed up to transform the genetics of silkworms to produce genetically modified silkworms that can produce natural colors. At present, the market price of this new type of color silkworm is at least twice as high as that of the traditional silkworm cocoon.
