Functionally linked MRI scans can identify a variety of neurological disorders

Most brain-related diseases are identified by the symptoms experienced by the patient. Because of the functional connectivity MRI (fcMRI) that researchers at the University of Washington are studying, it may become a new technology that maps the brain's interrelationships and may help identify unusual patterns that cause brain disease.

The research team focused on the "fundamental differences" in the brain lines of volunteers. Dr. Steven Petersen, head of the study, said in a statement: "This is a step toward the clinical use of functionally connected MRI. Before developing a diagnostic test based on fcMRI, we need to know what it actually measures. What we show here is not to measure the brain, but to measure how the brain is systematic. This also opens a new chapter in clinical testing."

In this study, nine volunteers spent hours on MRI machines performing different tasks, including memory, reading, and motion control. The results of the trial collected a large amount of MRI data and divided each brain into more than 300 parts, then mapped the activities within the connections between the areas.

The study found that everyone has a unique functional connectivity map, and these changes may be a way to identify brain conditions.

A new study shows that each person's brain neural network is very stable every day when performing different tasks, suggesting that differences between individuals can help diagnose brain disorders or related diseases.
