How to control the light of the shed

The lighting system not only affects the age at which sexual hens reach sexual maturity, but also affects other economic indicators of hens. Normally reduced light during the rearing period can delay the sexual maturation of the replacement hens (up to a maximum of 3 weeks) and increase the egg production and egg weight of the hens in the pre-laying period. 1. Illumination threshold The light intensity during the breeding period of the stock hens should be maintained at about 51 lux. Once outside this range, the flock will often have blemishes and become nervous. If the lighting period of a light cycle is shorter than 11 hours, the hen's sexual maturity and opening age will be delayed. Otherwise, it will be advanced. 2. Limiting the age of the light The reduction of light during the growing period is best started as soon as the brooding period is over. Most breeding companies recommend that a light system with a constant daily duration of 10 to 12 hours be implemented around the age of about 3 weeks in reserve hens, and some recommend implementing a gradual light reduction system. The specific implementation of the lighting system should be based on whether or not the target weight of the hens can be specifically maintained. If the reserved hens have not implemented a limited lighting system by the age of 12 weeks, they will not obtain the best production results in the future. 3. Illumination system for reserve hens Lighting in production includes natural lighting and artificially controlled lighting. It is easy to implement an artificially controlled lighting system for dark houses. It is recommended that a constant 8 to 10 hours of light be applied from about 3 weeks of age for the hens until they reach sexual maturity. If the chicken population weighs less than the standard weight of the line or day, a constant 10 hours of light can also be used. However, supplementing artificial lighting with natural lighting is more complicated for broilers with window or curtains. In principle, chicks hatched from March 5th to April 30th can be successfully reared in a house that is fully exposed to natural light. When the hatching date is between September 1 and February 28, the natural lighting must be intervened with artificial light, because the rearing period of these chickens is spent during the growth period of sunshine. There are two specific intervention methods: First, the constant light system, which is based on the longest sunshine hours of the day before the birds reach the age of sexual maturity (16 to 22 weeks of age), starting from 3 weeks of age to opening into reserve. The hens provide the above total amount of light. The second is to shorten the lighting system, that is, to determine the number of sunshine hours achievable when a sexually mature (16-22 weeks of age) is achieved, and then add 6 hours. This is the length of light that a chick should receive starting from the 2nd week. Thereafter, the total length of light was reduced by 20 minutes per week until the replacement hen reached sexual maturity.
